As of the 11 August 2008, NSW Health implemented a Panel of Overseas Recruitment Agencies (PORA) for the provision of recruitment services for overseas health professionals including doctors. Local Health Networks, as well as the NSW Ambulance Service, Justice Health and the Children's Hospital at Westmead, when engaging the services of an agency for the recruitment of overseas health professionals must now use a member of the PORA. Over 40 recruitment agencies world-wide tendered to become PORA members and only 7 agencies were successful, one being Challis Recruitment.
At a time when there are numerous recruitment agencies offering overseas recruitment services for medical practitioners, it is vital that all practices, hospitals and state and federal governments can be assured of the highest quality control and screening processes in the recruitment of all doctors (both overseas and locally trained).
